The Inspirational Story of Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone is one of the greatest movie stars of all time. He and Harrison Ford hold the honor of being the only actors in the history of American cinema to have starred in a box-office number-one film in six consecutive decades.
However, his rise to the top was a long and arduous journey. He was a struggling actor for numerous years after returning to New York City in 1969.
He hit rock bottom in the 1970s, sleeping in bus stations, and even selling his wife’s jewelry and his own dog for money.
Stallone was dedicated to taking ownership of his career by writing his own script and creating a movie role for himself, the legendary Rocky film.
After shopping the script, movie studios offered as much as $350,000 for the script but were not willing to gamble on an inexperienced actor to lead the film. Stallone rejected every offer unless he could star in the movie.
He was eventually offered a small amount of money for the script and was given to opportunity to star in the film.
The 1976 Rocky film became a box-office success, grossing $225 million, a culture phenomenon and an integral part of 1970s American pop culture, and entered the Library of Congress for being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
This occurred because he was resilient. He believed in himself and was steadfast in his decision to lead this film.
Be resilient. Be like Sylvester.
